FDI in Turkey

Turkey's impressive growth rates and structural reforms over the past decade have attracted the attention of many international investors.

According to EY attractiveness research in Europe, Turkey became the seventh most popular FDI destination in Europe in 2017, increasing by 3 places compared to 2016. 229 projects were implemented in the country, which is 66 percent more compared to the same period last year, and a share in all FDI projects throughout Europe.

Until 2002, total foreign direct investment in Turkey was only 15 billion US dollars, while between 2003-2017 the country attracted about 193 billion US dollars of FDI.

FDI inflow into Turkey by sector

Over the past 15 years, the financial and manufacturing sectors have attracted the largest amount of foreign direct investment in Turkey, with interest sectors diversifying significantly in line with Turkey’s vision in 2023 to take higher positions in the global value chain.

Over the past 15 years, most of FDI inflows to Turkey came from Europe, North America and the Gulf countries, while the share of Asia has increased markedly.

Companies with international capital

At the end of 2017, the number of companies with foreign capital in Turkey reached 58,400, compared to 5,600 in 2002.
